Dental Hygienist

Schooling: Margherita graduated from Don Bosco secondary school and studied Life Sciences at the University of Toronto (1987).  She later took Retail Floral Design at Seneca College and received a  Medical Secretarial  Diploma from the Toronto School of Business in 1989.  Finally, Margherita completed dental assisting and then dental hygiene at George Brown College  in 1994.

Why Dentistry?  Margherita says that just before graduating from Grade 13, she had braces put on her teeth at Dr. Alan Joe’s office.  She loved his hygienist Susan and admired her dedication, warmth, care, and personable skills.   Margherita’s hygienist Susan, was an educator and had a passion for her job.  She was careful and meticulous.  She had a soothing voice and connected with her patients.  She was always a pleasure to visit and Margherita always learned something from Susan.  The more Margherita returned, the more she realized that she would wanted a career in Health Services, and aspired to be like Susan.  In later years, Margherita started working at the Toronto Hospital in the general division with Dr. Armand Heating, the director of Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant.  She loved the hospital and learned a lot about patient care and compassion, but knew at that moment that she wanted to have a more direct patient care responsibility and that dental hygiene would be it!

What I Like Best About RYD:  In a world where we are surrounded by so much disconnect, I receive great satisfaction in working in an environment that connects so well with the people in our community that we provide service to. I feel a sense of belonging, and our patients enjoy coming to a place where they feel known and cared for beyond their teeth.
